Let’s also not forget that the French Empires and Empereurs prided themselves on Roman traditions (looking at you, Napoleon) and specifically adopted style, legal system, names and architecture of the Imperium Romanum.

I pride myself in getting the majority of the memes here, but I do not get this one.

    Can I get an explanation?

Both Rome and France had a period in which a monarchy was overthrown, a new and innovative government system was instituted, the resulting government became corrupt, and then that government was destroyed by a man who went on to lay the foundations for a novel form of imperial government separate from the old monarchy.

The joke is that the main difference in these two narratives is just that the Romans ate a lot of garum (fermented fish sauce) in the process, so by putting that bit fairly low, the picture makes one think that the text is initially about France instead of Rome.
