Flanders.
When I found out my GF was being unfaithful in high school, it damn near killed me. When I found out the exact same thing of my SO at age 22, living together, I felt like you do now. Indifferent. I did feel betrayed and I did leave her (duh) but emotionally, it never really registered the way you would expect it to. I assume this is a human self-preservation mind trick that the “lucky” ones among us experience in these harrowing situations.
Regardless, my condolences. I know no one died, but eventually it will feel sort of like it.
Wish I could say the same. In the last few years almost all small libraries in my region closed. I used to have one in my own village. Now I have to visit the nearest town. Lack of budget… just like what will kill the US libraries.
Monetarily, I’ve only donated to Wikipedia (and intend to do so again). Apart from that, I sometimes buy cat food for local cat rescues when they need it.
I try to personally help and heal any animals I come across that need help, no matter what kind. Wish I could do the same with people but I’ve been backstabbed a few too many times.
It’s happening. The funding for libraries across the US is getting clawed back, and I suspect many (the majority) will eventually close permanently.
Here in the EU, the vibe in libraries is decidedly “get your books and GTFO”. The old timey welcoming vibe and friendly librarians are a thing of the past.
Few .edu’s in there tho lol.
Like the other poster said, just make it yourself. Reddit is bound to piss off more of their users and they’ll need a place to land.
But at the same time, some of the default subs’ most prolific posts are bot reposts ad infinitum. Those never seem to get nuked even though it’s crystal clear they’re bot accounts…
It’s definitely that. I have had the “honor” of being IP banned for over a year. Any accounts associated with my ip (and there were quite a few) were nuked. I never posted anything worse than run of the mill criticism like I do here on Lemmy but I never kissed any mods’ rings either.
Terrible sense of style though. Always so incredibly tacky.
I’m amused by the idea that the more rich and powerful these people grow, the more certain “common” things are pretty much out of reach for them: regular friendship, love, family ties. Everything is about power balance and tit-for-tat with these guys. Good luck finding anyone who loves you for “you” and isn’t after your fortune. And even if you do, good luck recognizing it and acting on it!
Since Leon and Zuck killed factchecking, there is nothing stopping me from believing this.
Man, we should be so lucky.
They haven’t contributed to spaceflight advancement in truly innovative ways. At least SpaceX manages to catch some of their rockets when falling back to Earth. Blue Origin’s only claim to fame is that it’s a slightly more advanced vomit comet, which we’ve had for decades at this point.
As long as the force of the launch is enough to reach escape velocity, I guess so. But since the acceleration would be immediate, I guess a human occupant wouldn’t be able to survive the immense g-force generated.

Very first sci-fi film ever made after a story by Jules Verne. They use a giant cannon to launch someone into lunar orbit and back. Pure fiction but touched upon basics of actual science, and was definitely the inspiration for actual space exploration.
Of course, they want Women In Space to be billboards, pretty things to look at and nothing more. Women are for procreation and decoration in their world.
Amen. I also work in IT and I find the longer I do, the more I loathe new tech stacks and developments. I used to be passionate about new tech and its applications. Now I just want to be left alone where possible.
Amen. Added to that I have an extremely common name (both actually) so even if someone were to find that out, they’d still have to sift my shit from all my doppelgangers’.
