  • Yeah. My buddy lived with his SO. They had kids together. I believe they did have plans to get married but there were financial/planning considerations. At the time, the house was in his name.

He died unexpectedly and without warning due to a previously unknown medical condition. I don’t believe he had a W&T.

The paperwork she had to deal with - much of which would have been not required had they been married - was horrendous, especially anything bank related. The bank also seemed to be doing their best to fuck her over in regards to the family home. It was a nasty ordeal.

  • I kinda wonder about this in regards to the weird way these people structure their money/finances against their wealth. While I’m sure Elon’s bank account shows not figures then mine ever will, it’s my understanding is a lot of the “wealth” is tied up in assets like stock etc, and they then borrow against the stock for actual liquid cash-flow, such Elon did in order to buy X.

So my hope is still that at some point, Tesla takes enough of a dive that the bank makes a call and if he doesn’t have enough liquid capital to pay back the loans he might get outsted. Having Tesla survive sans-Elon would be great IMO

  • Yeah, it follows a lot of the “futuristic parallels to modern day issues” that we saw with ToS and TNG, while at the same time adding in humor that ranges from tongue-in-cheek to outright raunchy. I can’t imagine a TNG episode that would address “holodeck sex addiction” but Orville actually manages to do a pretty good job of stradding seriousness of that issue along with humor.

For the more serious stuff: imagine an alliance when it’s discovered that one of the members has done (and is still doing) some stuff that’s pretty strongly against the morals of the rest. If called on it they threaten to pull out. While all are in the middle of a war for survival. And they’re also one of the biggest weapons suppliers

That’s pretty close to some issues today while also being years old.

  • I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, this feels like a good place for Hydrogen power to step in.

One of the oft repeated concerns is that generating hydrogen to power vehicles the takes a lot of energy, which often comes from dirty sources.

One of the oft repeated issues for solar (or wind etc) is that it’s available at certain times and not in and of itself storable or transportable, so excess is lost.

So, take the excess solar energy, produce hydrogen and store for off-peak times or to distribute.

Seems like a win to me.
