Seconded. Wake me when Star Trek has been wrestled out of Kurtzman’s hands. He wants to make a dystopian crapfest with Michael Bay battles, no concerns over retconning or exploring deeper themes. This show won’t be going in anyones playlist the way the older Trek’s are.

Lower Decks is fun and fairly consistent to the universe considering it’s a comedy, perhaps because its the one new series Kurtman is the least involved in.

Meantime I’ll continue watching the older Treks when I need a Trek universe fix, and theres an abundance of good non-Trek sci-fi out there to keep us entertained also.

Absolutely agree that Enterprise is the far better show. Discovery was a lot of spectacle and little substance.

There were still actors and characters I liked - Culber and Stamets, Keyla Detmer, Saru.

But I had a completely different experience of Sonequa Martin-Green. She overacted and shredded most scenes into teen melodrama, while supposedly portraying a highly trained elite officer. I thought her work in Discovery was amateurish at best, so much crying and emotional outburst that it lost any weight. If a cadet’s constant state is lack of emotional regulation you they’d never make it through the academy.

There are quite a few edited ‘Friends without the laugh track’ videos on YouTube showing how creepy and unfunny some of the characters are. Its a bit of a meme theres so many of them.

Yeah. Lost was when I was intrugued by J J abrams style, and then completely turned off by his inability to tell a story or have a plan beyond the halfway point.

And then they involved him in seemingly every major movie franchise ever for the next two decades… and he kept doing the same crap. Lots of flash and dazzle and dramatic moments that ultimately mean nothing because the characters have no story to tell, no real arc, no consistent rules creating a believable universe for the watcher to be sucked in to - any rules can be thrown out the window anytime a dramatic cliche opportunity arises. Yet he still seems very popular.

Fair, and if tarrifs were his primary ‘unusual’ policy decision that might be the most reasonable assumption with respect to Occam’s razor, but when you add in the hundreds of other deeply damaging actions he’s taken against US institutions, core government branches, and functions it really tips the conclusion toward intentional sabotage.

In my experience people primarily get annoyed at thread necro when it’s to ask/discuss something tangential to the initial thread. Just start a new one in that case, instead of potentially bumping notifications to several people for your barely-related issue/discussion.

OTOH if it’s relevant info for a long dead thread then by all means add it or ask your query, that info could be valuable to someone with the same issue or it could be a pertinent update to an old discussion with new info.

There’s nothing inherently wrong with necroing a thread though. Automated archiving of threads is mostly counter-productive. Like when I find a closed and locked thread on GitHub that I have a fix for I just go “oh well guess they can find the fix themselves”.

This is just Krasnov doing as he’s told by his boss, the goal is damage. You’d have to overlook the absolute myriad of Russian ties, convictions, scandals and verified facts to see any other plan at play - yet the US news continually gives him the benefit of the doubt and thus the populace is left looking for alternative motives.

Or El Salvadorean president is trying to leverage the situation to get something big in return. It’s an unpleasant dehumanizing situation, but the man is now a bargaining chip for them.

It’s a really poorly thought out idea.

Imagine how his followers would react.

Imagine how many on the left side of US politics would very likely see attempts on their lives or successfully be assassinated in revenge - AOC, Bernie, Ilhan Omar, Rashida Tlaib?? Even centrists like Kamala and Obama would be likely targets.

The damage that political assassinations cause in a democracy (even a flawed one) is far greater than the ‘good’ they may do in taking down a bad leader.

Only musicians have to wear the politically dangerous slogan that could risk their lives, or the life of their children or partners?

All the keyboard warriors in this thread implying they’d happily shout out ‘death to Trump!’ on the world stage while having a kid and family living in the US (as JB does) are kidding themselves.

“His friend didn’t like Trump” is a little different to his friend publically endorsing an assassination attempt on their president.

Anyone who was aghast that ‘OMG Tenacious D broke up’ is no fan - they break up on every album, literally every show - it’s a bit. Jack Black is no fan of Trump, he’s publically stated the entire Apocalypto album was a response to Trump’s 2016 win. He hates his guts.

That’s very different to advocating for political assassination on stage.

The smart response was to back away from the situation, distance himself from KG, Kg to issue an apology, let it cool off - and then come back later. And would you look at that - so far that’s exactly what’s been done.

The article says they were literally forced to comply with the request by Swiss Law as the request went through the proper legal channels.
